I read all their posts. It sounds really scary for them. My best friends brother had the same thing. His case never got as bad. He was in a wheel chair for a while, but thats it. He has since made a full recovery. The chances are good.
Glad to hear about your friend's brother's recovery. It just seems so threatening.
